The Movimento Studentesco per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (Students’ Movement for International Organization – MSOI)
The Movimento Studentesco per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (Students’ Movement for International Organization – MSOI) represents the youth and university branch of the Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (Italian Society for International Organization - SIOI).
SIOI, a non-profit organisation recognised by D.P.R. n° 1700 of 27/12/1948 n. 1700 and regulated by D.P.R. n° 948 of 28/12/1982, operates under the supervision of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Its institutional aim is to promote knowledge regarding international policy issues in order to contribute to a peaceful arrangement of the international community, make progress in European unification and the diffusion of the awareness of human rights. SIOI carries out its activities at its Head Office housed in the ‘Palazzetto di Venezia’ in Rome as well as operating through its branch offices in various Italian cities (Turin, Milan and Naples). The SIOI President is Ambassador Umberto La Rocca, former Head of the Italian Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The MSOI is a cultural movement which operates in Rome, Turin, Milan, Gorizia and Naples and it is also the Italian member of the WFUNA-Youth (World Federation of UN Associations-Youth). The MSOI has the objective of aiding students who intend to work in the various international relations sectors (international cooperation, economic development, human rights etc.) and it offers students the possibility to deepen their knowledge of these issues. MSOI performs its activities in many Italian universities each academic year by organizing conferences, workshops, study holidays cultural exchanges and above all taking part in Model United Nations (Mun) and international simulation games promoted by the United Nations and the European Union. In addition, the Movement supplies members with all types of information on University courses, masters and internships both in Italian and international organizations and universities.
The ROMUN 2010
The MSOI is planning to realize a Model United Nations in Rome in the spring of 2010, similar to the previous editions which took place in 1997 and 2005.
Its main aims are to give the possibility to know how the United Nation works and, with the help of the specialist knowledge of experts, the ROMUN will give these young people the opportunity to elaborate their study of the most important international issues and contribute to solving them. The students will be able to gain first-hand experience of international relations by identifying themselves with this subject and have the opportunity to elaborate and compare with other important national and international realities for a few days. The event is organized by all the national MSOI Groups which have a long experience in organizing the simulation games in the Italian Universities. As the city of Rome is at the fore-front of the most important International Organizations, its historical role of promoter of dialogue among people creates the ideal location to host a Model of United Nations.
